Overall, very satisfied with our stay.
Beach front villa is just a perfect place to stay for vacation. The view from the window is terrific. Private pool is big enough. Room service at good standard. Staff at the hotel offered motorbike for rent at normal rate, which was very helpful. Welcome season fruits upon arrival.
Internet did not work at all times (which is actually good, as I did not waste time surfing). There's no private beach (which is also good, as at least we had to move a bit). Probably, villas other than beach front have only one advantage - cost saving. A little bit far from the entertainment district (Chaweng) - which some will find an advantage.

We booked a seaside pool villa. The villas are beautifully designed, great views from your private infinity pool and lots of indoor space. Unfortunately The Sarann did not mention on its website that it is still in soft-opening mode only. Thus there was noise from construction work all over the place, starting at 8am. The first villa we moved into had a non-operational bathtub and shower, thus we moved to another one which worked quite fine. As excuse for the noise we received a free island tour and as the water supply fully stopped on the second day for 2 hours we received a complimentary dinner at the hotels restaurant - which is a great asset. The food is brilliant. I would recommend to wait at least until beginning of 2009 to avoid any construction work noise and to allow the staff to fully understand their service concept :)
Great location (nice views of Chaweng), beautiful seaside-villas, great restaurant.
island circle road too close (noise), not yet finished.
- Restaurant Tip : The hotels own restaurant "The Ginger" is excellent.

We had a really good time in the Sarann despite of the (few) disadvantages. We booked the deluxe rooms for a special price, because they were still in construction. They upgraded us to a beachfront villa after 3 days, because they had only 4 rooms occupied (protests in Bangkok and Phuket, etc). The deluxe rooms were very lovely too, spacious, but with twin beds, and being a couple we preferred the king size bed anyway. The noise from the street was another point why we preferred the beachfront villas, where you couldn't hear any of it. The beachfront villas have their own private (though very small) pool, own terrace toward the sea/beach, but no sand beach! Breakfast was fine, but pretty boring with same choice every day. No buffet, but you could ask if you wanted anything that they could prepare. Personnel very friendly and helpful, good English and German at the reception desk. Still in construction, but only a few small things like gym and spa are missing by now. Almost no construction noise, street is worse anyway.
Very spacious and luxurious villas and deluxe rooms; beachfront villas with magnificent view; very friendly personnel.
Main Ring Street of the island very nearby, so the deluxe rooms and third row of villas are pretty noisy (without sound isolation windows); same is valid for the restaurant terrace beeing to noisy to sit there for dinner because of the street; the beach in front of the hotel is not possible to be used because instead of sand there are many big stones, maybe they are going to take care of that in future.
