When I first arrived it was pitch black and raining. The taxi driver pulled up into a couple of back streets, and I was wondering what I got myself into. However, once, we arrived, a hotel employee rain out with an umbrella, grabbed my bags and made sure I was in the lobby with dry clothes and bags. From there, it just got better. The location is actually 5 minutes walk to the main parts of town, but tucked away, so it is quiet in the evenings. The staff was extremely helpful, including packing a breakfast for my early morning departure. If you want the latest decorations, you will not find it here, but the rooms are nice and clean. I would stay here again.

After taking the far-from-restful sleeper train from Bangkok, we were planning to leave our bags at the hotel at 8am and check in later. They let us check in immediately. We swam for a while and napped in the perfectly air-conditioned rooms with individual temperature control. After that perfect introduction, we knew we had found the right place. They also let us stay until 2pm on checkout day, so we had a final midday swim before leaving.
We spent three nights, and it took us part of that time to realize how good the location is. It's about 200 yards from the Ping River, and about a quarter mile up river there are a number of good riverside restaurants, some with lively live music, others with peaceful dining areas overlooking the river. The city's best art gallery and several very nice upscale shops are also near the restaurants. And for joggers, the riverside is a good place to run.
It's a long walk or short tuk-tuk ride into the old city. That was fine with us. We found it easy to head into town in the morning and return to the hotel for a swim and cooling rest during the heat of the day. We'd walk out to the restaurants along the river in the evening.
The excellent breakfast was served outside in a shaded garden overlooking the pool. There was a good mix of Thai and western food and the choices changed each day.
The hotel is very new and sparklingly clean. Rooms and beds are very comfortable. The staff spoke English well and were helpful without being pushy. We would not even think of staying anywhere else in Chiang Mai and were eager to write a review.
Elegantly simple, extremely comfortable, charming and responsible staff, refreshing pool, delicious breakfast, convenient location.

I really enjoyed my stay at the Rimping hotel. When we arrived, we were warmly welcomed with drinks. It was great having free use of the internet, and borrow the DVD. The pool was great. The staff were very helpful especially in booking Tuk Tuk and transport to airport and for the day out. I would recommend this hotel to friends and family.
