The strand hotel was once regarded as 'the finest hostelry east of the suez'.These days however whilst the service is still exemplary the hotel cannot lay claim to said moniker as newer better appointed hotels have been built. However the Strand should still be visited for at least one night if in Rangoon as the service is still excellent. All staff speak excellent English, all rooms are large well appointed suites and the dining options are vast and reasonably priced. Unfortunately the lack of a swimming pool and the poor views [not the hotels fault - that an untidy industrial yard has sprung up in front] from even the best suites is prohibitive to longer stays.
Impressive Colonial architecture
Butler service.
Elegant dining.
Large Suites
Internet with proxy servers
No swimming pool.
Poor Views
