The 2,217 temples, pagodas and stupas of Bagan are centred mainly around the area known as "Old Bagan" which lies within the old city walls. Unfortunately accomodation in Old Bagan is limited to around 5 relatively more highly priced hotels, of which Bagan Hotel (US$81 per night/including taxes) is one. Still, I have no regrets staying at this location because of the proximity to most of the temples - one easily walks, cycles, or takes a horse cart there and back.
As for Bagan Hotel itself, the pleasantly designed hotel grounds overlooking the Irrawaddy River was in keeping with the grandeur of the historical site. Meals are served on a lawn beneath the canopy of towering trees.
Cons: We had mosquitoes in our room at night, inspite of airconditioning. The taxi and bicycles services provided by the hotel are much more expensive than just outside the hotel.

Friendly and accomodating staff.
Comfortable room with functioning amenities; but could use a coat of paint and a thorough cleansing.
Excellent pool and settings for yoga.
Tasty food and beautiful garden setting for dining.
Great location in Bagan.
