Food is perhaps the one consuming passion in Malaysia. At Hotel Istana, you are invited to share this passion at the restaurants and lounges.
Taman Sari Brasserie
Taman Sari, meaning Garden of Flowers, is a quaint establishment reflecting the charm and appeal of a resort restaurant. The 146-seater eatery overlooks lush landscaped gardens and an outdoor swimming pool. Taman Sari Brasserie serves a potpourri of local and Western dishes. From 6-11am, a lavish breakfast offering a selection of oven-fresh breads, fruit juices, waffles and pancakes is served. A central buffet brings together the best of East and West in a sumptuous spread served from 12-2.30pm for lunch and 7-10.30pm for dinner.
Songket Lounge
The Songket Lounge, with trimmings and grand architecture reflecting the regal splendor of a palace court, is a fitting introduction to the peerless beauty of the Hotel Istana. Open from 10am-1am daily, the 180-seat Songket Lounge is a classic venue for business chats or get-togethers. A refreshing list of frozen fantasy cocktails, non-alcoholic cocktails and aperitifs are served all day. The tranquil atmosphere of the lofty Songket Lounge is enhanced by the light, popular music played by resident bands.
Peach Chinese Chinese Restaurant
The Peach Garden, a Chinese restaurant, is decorated in elegant rosewood furniture, plush carpets complemented by calligraphic and Chinese artifacts. It serves traditional Chinese cuisine and seafood specialties, with a wide variety of dim sum offerings as well. Together with seven private rooms, the restaurant can seat 220 persons. This hotel is in a location which is near to mass transit and access to major road system in the area. There are many different resturants and small shops nearby as well. I had a very relaxing massage in a reputable parlor which was about a 5 minute walk from the hotel. It gave me the pick up needed after some long flights and long meetings. The Twin Towers are a great sight at night.
Many extras with a very good staff helping as much as they can.
A little noisy.
- Sightseeing/Attractions Tip : The twin towers are nearby and any visit there should include a trip there for a coffee or dinner.

My husband and I stayed here for 4 nights in October 2008.
We found the location to be excellent with easy access to the Monorail (Raja Chulan stop), walk to Petronas and KL Tower. Bukit Bintang is around the corner.
Unfortunately we were disappointed that the hotel was so old/outdated. We were in a superior room, which is located on floors 1-10. We had a non-smoking room but when you stepped out of your room the level reeked of cigarette smoke - a non-smoking level/floor would be a good idea! You will still encounter smoking guests in the lift and other areas, unfortunately.
We were disappointed with the service at Breakfast. Breakfast served until 10.30, we arrived for breakfast at the restaurant at about 10.20 one morning to have them packing up around us and removing food already which I thought was a bit keen. We had to ask for coffee and even cutlery on more than one occasion, they were too busy to keep up with the number of guests they had in for breakfast. Don't expect pork bacon here - this was a sore point with my husband!
Location, easy walk to Bukit Bintang area, walk to Petronas and KL Tower.
Very comfortable bed.
Seemed pretty clean.
Old.
Very expensive and inflexible internet access.
Service wasn't great.
Staff's English was not very good.
Some things in room did not work properly.
No Mini bar.
- Sightseeing/Attractions Tip : The monorail was very handy and cheap for getting around however it can get quite squashy at peak times.
Alcohol is better value in Chinatown than anywhere else we found.

Sometimes the staff can not cover the guest services due to a lot of work during the summer, and those who came after that. Congestion of guests and too much
work, be unlucky because they find all people nervous and can bear any arguments or understanding anyway as I know the people in this hotel I excuse them hope to cover thier favorite guest special attention .....

The room was not as I was expected in spite of that I was one of the oldest and the admired guests of this hotel. This is just a remark for full attention to give their usual and those who are coming back to the hotel.
