We enjoyed our stay here, it's a little off the beaten path but that's what we wanted. Easy to get a chair by the pool and the beach was basically empty, you had it all to ourself. Staff was friendly and helpful but be prepared to wait for your meals, any where from about 10-20 minutes for drinks, 20-40 minutes for meals. Don't recommend renting a car and things are cheaper in town than the hawkers outside the gate.

I chose the Grand Balisani Suites Hotel because I wanted someplace outside of the regular hustle and bustle of the Kuta/Legian areas, with access to the excellent restaurants and beach areas around Seminyak. The hotel fit that bill perfectly. I was impressed with the room, the view, the decor, and especially the bathroom (excellent setup), and was especially impressed with the professionalism of the staff. I would recommend this hotel to anyone who wants a retreat at a self-contained location. Should your visit be more about going on the town more in towards Kuta, this might not be for you. Though I didn't explore around the area, the hotel advertised for some interesting exploring trips to nearby temples and other attractions, so it could be a nice place to explore the less flashy side of Bali. All in all, I plan on staying there again, as I was very pleased with the overall experience.

The hotel is very unusual in that its main building and the garden suites (in which we stayed) are constructed by magnificent old stone giving the place a Tomb Raider-esque feel. The staff were very friendly and did their best to make our stay comfortable. The things that let me down are: 1) the hotel provides only one way transport to Seminyak, Legian and Kuta 2) the hotel charges more than double the cost of an airport taxi to take you back to the airport (insist on using a meter taxi) 3) It's a long walk into the nearest 'town' (Seminyak) so taxi's or the transport provided are essential 4) The garden suites, although looking great from the outside and very spacious, are in need of updating inside (air-con, decoration, bathroom fittings) Overall a good place to stay if you want to be 'away from it all'

• Restaurant Tip : Book a day before at the Sobat Warung (just up the road): the food was amazing and so so cheap. Unbeatable!!!!
