Cairo, the capital of Egypt and the largest metropolis in Africa, spreads from north to south along the banks of the Nile River. Cairo is a perfect destination for those fascinated by medieval buildings, oriental bazaars and Islamic architecture of carved domes and sculpted mosques. The city has a hot desert climate so the weather is likely to be hot and dry most of the year. If you visit Cairo between April and May, please be aware of frequent sandstorms.
Along each side of the Nile River is where you will find several main attractions, including the Pyramids of Giza, which is the only remaining of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World, the world Heritage site of Islamic Cairo, and the eldest ancient Egyptian cemetery, Saqqara. There’s also the Opera House, which reflects an architectural masterpiece of Islamic design.
Like other big cities in the world, Cairo is the city that never sleeps. At night, the city turns alive and full of a big crowd of locals and tourists coming out for shopping, dining and exploring.
